Croatia
If you're planning a trip to Croatia, it's good to understand that it's all about planes, trains, and automobiles, (and boats!) Before leaving Croatia, we were on several boats, cabs, planes and if I had it my way, we'd be on bikes.
Croatia is currently being flooded with tourists from all around the world because the beauty of this place is unbelievable. It's a seasonal place where if you like swimming in the sea, island hopping on a boat and basking in the sun, you definitely should make it out between April and September.
Early October might be ok as it was for us, but everything truly shuts down during the offseason. We were lucky enough to still find the warm weather, but the restaurants, tour operators and getting to and from the other islands can be very challenging when things slow down - way down.
Lucky for us going in October, we still caught a glimpse of some swimming, beautiful islands and beautiful restaurants that served up fresh fish in an oven pan. We were lucky too because the next day they were closing for the winter season.
If you like white wine, this is the place for you; not because they make great white wine, but because seafood is the main dish here. And you better believe it's all fresh.
Going back to the first night, we had the most amazing seafood with a bottle of wine for right around $40 US dollars. How do you like that for fresh seafood, pasta, wine and dessert? It doesn't matter where you eat because the ambiance of any restaurant is the relics all around you.
From eating in narrow walkways under century-old walls and support beams to listening to music in a plaza that was built in 300 AD. Settling for a glass of wine to just sit and enjoy the music here had already exceeded our expectations. There was just too much to write about in one journal.
I love to share my collection of journals on Healthy Food and Wine. I start with my book; 26 Days and What You Need To Know About a Plant-Based Diet. However, this journal that I write about has been pure bliss. Please check my other journal I wrote about Croatia’s food, wine and historic visits.
We don't have to always indulge to have great food, and most of the time, we miss out on fantastic healthy food because we're so programmed to think we need to pack on the calories. Dining on seafood wasn’t a bad gig.
I won't lie, I put on the extra pounds on this trip but I also was able to relish in new ways to cook healthy and Croatia has some great healthy dishes.
Croatia is still reasonable, the food is fresh and the scenery is breathtaking. What more can you ask for?
I hope you enjoy but most of all, Croatia should be on your bucket list soon!
Have you been? What were your most memorable discoveries?
